Facebook has introduced a new unified e-commerce platform: Facebook Shops. It is primed to let businesses of all sizes establish an integrated online display window for showcasing their wares to customers on Facebook as well as Instagram. This new unified e-commerce platform is touted to have huge ramifications for all the small-scale brands and retailers.

Currently, this new centralized shopping experience is being rolled out on the Facebook app along with an Instagram app with plans for adding a dedicated shopping tab to Instagram’s navigation bar in the works. There are also plans to integrate messaging capabilities through Messenger along with Whatsapp later in the year. Facebook Shops is free to use, is easy to set up, it has faster loading time corresponding to mobile websites and it has been designed to make the shopping easier as well as to provide a seamless shopping experience for both the customers and the businesses selling their wares on the platform.
The platform displays full-screen photos and customizable collections of the products. Each collection features around 6-30 products with their names, descriptions and cover media that the customers can choose from. Customers can view the products on the respective brand’s Facebook page or Instagram profile.
